Harold Madsen

CANBY – Services for Harold Peter Madsen, 97, of Canby will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Canby. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be at St. Stephens Lutheran Cemetery, Canby. Military honors will be provided by Canby Military Honor Guard, Peden-Cole American Legion Post 109 of Gary, S.D., and Porter American Legion Post 457. Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church.

He died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014.

He was born March 20, 1926, in Yellow Medicine County, to Rudolph and Margaret (Reber) Madsen. He served in the Army during World War II. He enlisted on Sept. 16, 1942. He was stationed in Alaska and Colorado. While in Colorado, he guarded German prisoners of war and sailed with them to Liverpool, England. He then went to France and joined up with other soldiers returning to New York. He was discharged on March 22, 1946.

Survivors include his nephews, Bruce and Douglas; and nieces, Janet Peterson, Mariann Boyd, Bonnie Brueshoff, Sonja McGill and Debbie Martel.
