YM County enters into prosecution agreement with Echo
GRANITE?FALLS?- The Yellow Medicine County Board approved an item on the consent agenda to provide prosecution services for the city of Echo at its regular meeting on Tuesday.
The terms of the agreement provide for the county attorney’s office to prosecute petty misdemeanor, misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor and traffic offenses arising under state law and criminal and traffic probation violations that occur within the city.
The agreement also provides for advice on prosecution matters, procedures and policies, providing law enforcement training, victims assistance services, completing criminal appeals, and administrative advice and assistance. The agreement specifically excludes representation on criminal prosecutions in federal courts.
Cost of the services was set at $85 per hour.
The board voted to accept the resignation of Planning and Zoning Administrator Randy Jacobson, effective May 5. Jacobson’s last day at work will be March 12 after taking accumulated leave.
Jacobson has held the position for more than 10 years. Commissioner Gary Johnson remarked that when Jacobson took over the position the office had been “chaos” and congratulated Jacobson for bringing order to the department.
On the recommendation of Family Services Director Rae Ann Keeler-Aus, the board confirmed Emily McGonigle in the permanent position of social worker and Patty Johnson as eligibility worker after they passed their six-month probationary period.
The board also approved Duane Moerke as an unpaid intern in family services. Moerke lives near Lake Wilson and is a student at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Moerke said he went back to school at age 40 to study social work after a career as a construction laborer.
On the recommendation of County Finance Director Michelle May and County Ditch Inspector Chris Balfany, the board approved two partial payments of $300,400 and $45,700 to Hjerpe Contracting for work on County Ditch 9 running through Hazel Run Township.
According to Balfany, the ditch improvements are 90 percent completed and only wait on the ground to thaw before completion.
