Man dies in grain bin incident in YMC

A 77-year-old man died Monday after apparently becoming buried in a grain bin in rural Clarkfield in Yellow Medicine County.

The Yellow Medicine Sheriff’s Office received a missing person call at 4:40 p.m. Monday and was dispatched to 3169 480th St., the Yellow Medicine Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. When deputies arrived at the farm site they were told individuals working with the missing man, Richard Rosetter, said he had been in and out of the bin while they were emptying it.

Rosetter was last seen about 2 p.m., and workers said they thought he had left with his wife, the news release said. But when she returned without him, workers at the farm site began to search for him and called 911.

The grain bin was emptied by rescue personnel, and after about six-and-a-half hours, Rosetter’s body was discovered in the bin.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Yellow Medicine Sheriff’s Office joined the Clarkfield Ambulance, Montevideo Fire Department, Clarkfield Fire Department and Yellow Medicine Technical Rescue Team at the scene. Many friends and neighbors also assisted with equipment and removal of grain, the YMC Sheriff’s Office said.
