Klein presents research at national forum

Christian Klein, a junior at Regis University in Denver, was invited to present his recent research findings at the national meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Washington, D.C.

His findings were a result of research that he did in Colorado in the summer of 2013. His January presentation focused on the interaction of black holes and active galactic nuclei in galaxy clusters.

Klein is a physics major at Regis but is continuing his studies this semester at the University of Aberdeen in Aberdeen, Scotland. He is the son of Stephen and Kay Klein of Marshall.

Evans named to EKU dean’s list for fall 2013

Billie Jo Evans of Lynd is one of 2,976 Eastern Kentucky University students who earned dean’s list honors for the fall 2013 semester.

Evans is a senior occupational safety major at EKU.

To achieve dean’s list honors at Eastern, students attempting 14 or more credit hours must earn a 3.5 grade point average out of a possible 4.0. Students attempting 13 credit hours must earn a 3.65 grade point average, and students attempting 12 credit hours must earn a 3.75 grade point average.

Becker begins student teaching assignment

University of Minnesota, Morris, student Racquel Becker of Lake Benton will student teach fourth grade at Basswood Elementary under the supervision of Christine Barthel.

At the University of Minnesota, Morris, teacher education students work with experienced faculty in rigorous, comprehensive and collaborative programs that are accredited by Minnesota’s Board of Teaching and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Multiple field experiences in a variety of settings provide students the opportunity to refine their skills as they work with child and adolescent learners.

Deutz named to Drake University president’s list

Eric Deutz of Marshall was named to the president’s list at Drake University for the fall 2013 semester. Students must achieve a perfect 4.0 grade point average to earn this honor.

Meyer named to dean’s list at UW-RF

Emma Meyer of Lynd was named to the fall semester dean’s list at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The list honored 1,432 full-time undergraduates who earned a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a scale of 4.0 or midway between and A and B average. Meyer is majoring in teaching English to speakers of other languages.
