BOYS HOCKEY: Bulldogs take advantage of chances, defeat Tigers
MARSHALL – Marshall suffered a 6-2 loss to St. Peter/LeSueur-Henderson/Tri-City United on Tuesday night, marking the Tigers’ second loss of the season to the Bulldogs.
The Tigers failed to capitalize on five power-play opportunities while the Bulldogs had one power-play goal and scored another shorthanded.
“I think our penalty kill was the difference tonight,” SPLHTC coach David Swanberg said. “We took a few more penalties than we were accustomed to and I don’t feel like Marshall had many chances on the power play. We only had one power-play opportunity and took advantage of it.”
The score was deadlocked at 2-2 after the first period of play before Marshall’s offense started to run out of gas near the end of the second period.
The Bulldogs gained a huge momentum swing in the final minute of the second period on a goal by C.J. Pavlo that was assisted by Isaac Westphal and Sam Wenner.
The Tigers ran out of gas in the third period while the Bulldogs rallied for three goals to put the game away.
“They battled hard and took advantage of their chances,” Marshall coach Michael Weiss said. “We had a few power plays in the second period where we just couldn’t take advantage. They had a shorthanded goal that flustered us a bit.”
Andrew Bell and Taylor Rasmussen scored Marshall’s two goals. Brent Haukom assisted on the goal by Bell, while Derek Rasmussen and Sebastian Landry helped out Taylor Rasmussen with his goal.
The Bulldogs received goals from Jackson Keeley (two), Isaac Westphal, Ryan Hoehn, Palvo and Alex Hoehn. Westphal also had two assists on the night as the Bulldogs tallied nine total assists.
