RUSSELL – Services for Myba J. Walter, 80, of Russell will be 2 p.m. Monday at Grace First Parish in Russell. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the church on Sunday. Visitation will continue at the church on Monday, one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Russell City Cemetery. The Hamilton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center.
Myba Jean was born Feb. 18, 1933, in Round Lake to Thomas and Emma (Bastman) Easterday. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Heron Lake. Myba graduate in 1951 at Heron Lake High School.
On July 18, 1951, Myba was united in marriage to Gerald Walter at the Heron Lake United Methodist Church. They farmed in Coon Creek Township. Gerald passed away in 1993. Myba moved from the farm to Russell in 1997. She was an active member of First Grace Parish and was on the Altar Guild. She also was a member of the Russell American Legion Auxiliary. The love of her life was her family and her dog, Rusty and deceased dogs, Pepper and Dusty. She also enjoyed visiting, fishing, bird watching, butterfly watching, wearing various hats, crocheting, playing cards, painting felt pictures and bowling.
Survivors include her two children, Steve (and Nancy) Walter of Garvin and Deb Walter of Russell; granddaughter, Sara Walter; two sisters, Della Tarrant of Sherburn and Irene McCoy of Milford, Iowa; son-in-law, Lanny Johnson of Russell; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Judy Johnson; and two brothers, Tom and Neil.
