NCAA WRESTLING: Mustangs knock off Marauders

MARSHALL – Five Southwest Minnesota State wrestlers earned wins by fall in its 44-3 rout of the University of Mary on Saturday to conclude the 2013-14 regular season at P.E. Gym.

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win is SMSU’s sixth of the season and secures a third place finish in the conference – its highest finish and most conference wins since joining the NSIC in 2000.

It was the final match for seven SMSU seniors – William Dean, Ethan Hildebrandt, Codie Lane, Micah Larson, Travis Peralta, Justin Reinsma and Andrew Rodas.

Justin Reinsma (133), Beau Buysse (149), Travis Peralta (184), Micah Larson (197), and Cole Wilson (285) all pinned their opponents to contribute 30 points to the team score.

Reinsma’s victory at 133 pounds was his 107th of his career.

The only hiccup of the day for SMSU was Alec Lindsey’s 4-0 win over Ethan Hildebrandt at 141 pounds.

The 44 points and five pins are both season-highs for SMSU. The previous high for points was 42 versus Northern State just a week ago.

SMSU (12-5 overall, 6-2 NSIC) will look to carry its regular season success into the postseason next week when the Mustangs enter NCAA regional action on Friday in Edmond, Okla.
