Harold Kraus

NEW ULM – Services for Harold H. “Boots” Kraus, 87, of New Ulm will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldier’s Rest Section. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday and from 7:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

He died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at the Sibley County Medical Center in Arlington.

Harold Henry Kraus was born Jan.13, 1927, in New Ulm to William and Alvina (Terhofter) Kraus. He attended New Ulm Public School. Boots served in the United States Army from March of 1945 and was honorably discharged in November of 1946. He served overseas in the Asiatic Pacific Theater earning the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal- Japan. After his service, he returned to New Ulm, where he was a bricklayer for Priesner-Brinkmann Construction, Heymann Construction, Art Lubert Construction, and Kraus Brothers Construction. He was self-employed as a bricklayer for many years until retiring in the early 1990s. Boots loved to fish, hunt, and play cards. He also enjoyed cutting meat, making sausage, and smoking meats and fish. Boots moved to the Arlington Good Samaritan Center in May of 2006. He was a member of the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Post #132 in New Ulm, the V.F.W. Post #1648 in New Ulm, the Bricklayer Local #6 Union, and the Lost Dog & Fox Hunter’s Club. www.mvfh.org

Harold is survived by his daughters, Karen (special friend, Jeff Manderfeld) Savoy of New Ulm, Joyce (Greg) Reinhart of Marshall, Nicole Rewitzer of New Ulm; sons, Perry (Kathy) Kraus of St. James, Harold (Mindy) Kraus of New Ulm; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Veronica Kraus of New Ulm; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard (Jeanette) Kraus, Clarence Kraus; sister, Viola (Frank) Weller.
