GIRLS BASKETBALL: BOLD edges TMB 60-56

GRANITE FALLS – The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton girls basketball team ended its season with a heartbreaking 60-56 loss to the BOLD Warriors.

“It was a frustrating way to end a good season for the girls,” said Panthers head coach Derek Ashbaugh.”

BOLD jumped out to an early 16-7 lead in the first-half. TMB’s Cassie Hook drilled a 3-point shot to get the Panther’s offense rolling.

Jessie Nelson went 2-2 from the free-throw line to tie the game 23-23. BOLD senior Baylie Kubesh drained a shot from beyond the arc, surpassing the 1,000-point mark for her career.

BOLD pulled away in the second-half, grabbing a nine point lead but the Panthers battled back.

TMB’s Kaylee Kirk converted a steal into a layup to put the Panthers within three points of the Warriors, at 53-50 with just over two minutes remaining in the game. The Warriors closed the game out from the free-throw line, earning the 60-56 victory over the Panthers.

TMB was led by Cassie Hook with 14 points and five rebounds. “We struggled running our offense a little bit,” said Cassie Hook. “If we would have would have had a steadier offense and ran through it a bit more, we probably could have gotten some better shot.”

Jessie Nelson contributed nine points and five rebounds with Kaylee Kirk and Sammie Gervais with eight points each.

BOLD’s Carly Sigurdson was the Warriors leading scorer with 24 points followed by Baylie Kubesh with 22. The Warriors continue their play-off run on Friday when they play Redwood Valley.

The Panthers finish their season 19-7 overall and were able to grab the number-one seed in the Section 3AA North tournament. “We have a lot of things to be proud of,” said Ashbaugh. “I know they wanted to go a little farther this year, but there is a lot of stuff to build on and it’s certainly a good start for next year.”
