PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Elks, Rabbits advance in tournaments

ELKTON, S.D. – The Elkton-Lake Benton boys basketball team advances to the finals of the South Dakota Class B District 7 Tournament after beating Colman-Egan 62-29 in the semifinals Tueday.

Health Schindler and Nathan Krog sparked the Elks, scoring 21 and 19 points, respectively. Krog also led E/LB with eight steals and seven rebounds, while Schindler contributed four rebounds, four steals and four assists in the victory.

The Hawks were led by Cole Schoenrock with six points and Bodee Groos with five points.

The Elks will continue their playoff run Friday, when they play Chester Area at Dell Rapids.

Wabasso 55, Red Rock Central 37

WINDOM – Wabasso stays alive in the Section 3A South bracket after defeating Red Rock Central 55-37.

The Rabbits were able to earn eight blocked shots on the night with Karlee Eichten and Chelsey Guetter with three a piece. Guetter and Eichten also led Wabasso in scoring with 17 and 11 points, respectively.

The team’s leading rebounders were Guetter and Morgan Frank with eight each. On defense, Kacie Rothmeier and Erin Liebl each grabbed four steals.

Also scoring for the Rabbits was Larissa Rohlik, Liebl, Becky Franta and Callie Rohlik with three points each while Rothmeier had two.

Wabasso improve to 23-2 on the season and advance to the Class A Section 3 South Tournament championship game against Southwest Minnesota Christian on Friday night.
