MARSHALL – Mass of Christian Burial for Bertha Louwagie, 92, of Marshall, will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Clotilde Catholic Church in Green Valley. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today with a Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Visitation will continue from 8-9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Clotilde Catholic Cemetery in Green Valley.
On Monday, March 3, 2014, Bertha passed away surrounded by her loving family, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center.
Bertha (Noyes) Louwagie was born Jan. 20, 1922, to Henry and Marie (DeWilde) Noyes near Ghent. She was baptized, made her First Communion, and confirmed at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent.
On May 5, 1943, she was united in marriage to Emil Louwagie in St. Eloi Catholic Church. They farmed near Green Valley for 44 years before they moved to Marshall in 1987. To this marriage they were blessed with eight children; Dennis, Bob, Dean, Diane, Doug, Greg, Bev and Pat.
Bertha was a member of St. Clotilde CCW, Catholic Daughters, and was a volunteer at the Hospital Thrift Shop and Gift Shop. Bertha prayed the Rosary religiously. She enjoyed playing cards, and especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a great memory, and knew all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s names and birthdays.
She is survived by her children, Dennis (and Evelyn) of Marshall; Bob (and Linda) of Wallingford, Iowa; Dean (and Linda) of Marshall; Diane (and David) Hennen of Minneota; daughter-in-law, Jane of Milroy; Greg (and Diane) of Marshall; Bev (and Dave) Peterson of Alexandria; Pat (and Laurie) of Marshall; 26 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brothers Jules (and Marlene) Noyes of Marshall, Joe (and Millie) Noyes of Marshall, and Ray (and Colleen) Noyes of Ghent; sisters-in-law Mary Noyes, Annie Verly and Ida Louwagie, and brother-in-law Maurice Louwagie, all of Marshall.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emil; son, Doug Louwagie; grandson, Eric Hennen; brother, Emil Noyes; sister, Alice Louwagie; great-grandsons, Landon and Lane Louwagie and Jacob Preheim; and her Louwagie in-laws.
