NCAA WOMEN’S GOLF: SMSU second at invite

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s golf team opened its spring season Thursday with a score of 341 at the SMSU Spring Invite at the par-72 LPGA International Legends Course. SMSU which is hosting the event for the second straight year is currently in second place in the six-team, 36-player tournament.

Ferris State leads the tournament with a score of 337, four shots ahead of SMSU, while Minnesota State is in third place with a 343.

Abby Gruber shot SMSU’s low-round on Thursday with a 10-over-par 82 and is currently tied for second place. Minnesota State’s Kenya Sethasompobe is the first round leader with an 8-over 80.

For SMSU, Dana Wagner is tied for fourth place with an 11-over 83, Rachel Patnoe is tied for 12th place with a 15-over 87, while Marissa Campeau shot a 17-over 89 and is currently tied for 16th place. Becky Koepp rounded out the Mustangs’ top five scoring with a 27-over 99 and is tied for 31st place.

Playing as individuals, SMSU’s Megan Will shot a 102 and Trisha Kienitz finished with a 105.

Friday’s final round begins at 7:30 a.m. CDT.
