WOMEN'S GOLF: SMSU places third at Spring Thaw

MESA, Ariz. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team finished in third place at the four-team Fort Hays State (Kan.) Spring Invite at Dobson Ranch Golf Course on Tuesday

The Mustangs recorded a two-round total of 671. SMSU, which shot an opening round 332 on Monday, shot a 339 on Tuesday.

Lindenwood (Mo.) won the invite with a two-round score of 652, finishing nine shots ahead of Northwest Missouri State (661). Fort Hays State rounded out the team scores with a 708.

SMSU was led by Dana Wagner who finished tied for fifth overall with a 19-over-par 163. Also for SMSU, Abby Gruber tied for ninth with a 22-over 166, Becky Koepp tied for 16th 26-over 170, Rachel Patnoe finished tied for 19th with a 31-over 175 and Marissa Campeau finished 22nd with a 34-over 178.

Megan Will, playing as an individual, had a strong two days finishing tied for 14th with a 25-over 169, while Trisha Kienitz finished 18th with a 28-over 172.

SMSU continues its spring season this Sunday and Monday at the Missouri Western State Invite in St. Joseph, Mo.
