Short takes for March 21

Another week of state action

THUMBS UP:

Another week brings us more exciting state basketball action in the area, as the Marshall and Minneota girls basketball teams take part in the state tournament once again. These are two schools that have seemingly made trips to the Cities an annual event, whether it’s for basketball or volleyball, and this year is no different. We wish both the Vikings and Tigers the best of luck the rest of the weekend.

‘Drake’s Law’

THUMBS UP:

We’re glad to see “Drake’s Law” get its start at the state Capitol. The bill, named after little Drake Bigler who was killed in a July 2012 car crash when a drunk driver crashed into the vehicle driven by his mother, Heather, was introduced this week and would toughen the penalties on repeat DWI offenders. This bill should be a slam dunk at the Capitol – repeat offenders need to be taken off the roads. We hope this legislation gets a good look during this session – and a vote.
