Coroner: Anyasike died of hypothermia

MARSHALL – The Lac qui Parle County coroner says Michael Anyasike, the Dawson-Boyd standout football player who was reported missing about 12 hours after sheriff’s deputies responded to a drinking party at a farm near Madison the morning of March 9, died that day of hypothermia due to environmental exposure.

Alcohol consumption was listed as a contributing factor to his death, the LQP County Sheriff’s Office said, citing county coroner Ralph Gerbig.

Several people, including Anyasike, fled the party when authorities arrived. After Anyasike was reported missing, deputies searched the area and found him.

He was taken to Madison Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Anyasike, 18, was a key part of Dawson-Boyd’s football team, which went 12-2 last season.
