‘Teaching Truth’

MARSHALL – The Marshall Area Christian School will present its seventh annual Promise Banquet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Southwest Minnesota State University PE gymnasium. All proceeds from the event will benefit MACS tuition assistance.

“The purpose of the Promise Banquet is three-fold, said Corey Prins, who is on the MACS Board of Directors.

“One, it’s a fundraiser for tuition assistance,” he said. “Two, it’s to display Marshall Area Christian School and what it stands for and three, to share the gospel as the message of Christ.”

Prins said the event is free of charge because underwriters cover the cost.

“There will be a gift challenge at the event and the proceeds will go to tuition assistance,” he said.

The keynote speaker will be author Josh McDowell of Plano, Texas. The title of McDowell’s talk will be “Teaching Truth in Today’s Culture.” His presentation is based on his book, “Unshakeable Truth,” said Prins.

Prins said McDowell is known as “an author and an apologist, which means he explains his faith.”

“McDowell’s heart is toward Christian schools like ours,” Prins said. “He likes to help support schools. He sees the potential in teens and pre-teens and how a teacher shapes their belief in the world, how they see the world from a Biblical standpoint.”

According to the website josh.org, McDowell completed his college degree at Wheaton College and then attended Talbot Theological Seminary, where he graduated magna cum laude with a master of divinity degree.

In 1961, McDowell joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ International (now called Cru). Shortly thereafter, he started the Josh McDowell Ministry to “reach young people worldwide with the truth and love of Jesus.”

McDowell has addressed more than 25 million people, giving more than 26,000 talks in 125 countries.

Since 1960, McDowell has written or co-authored 138 books including: “More Than a Carpenter” which has sold 15 million copies in 85 languages and “New Evidence That Demands a Verdict” – named one the 20th century’s top 40 books and one of the 13 most influential books of the last 50 years on Christian thought by World Magazine.

In addition to many other awards, McDowell has been nominated 36 times for the Gold Medallion Award and has received that award on four occasions.
