YOUTH WRESTLING: Marshall-Lakeview sending 16 athletes to state tournament
WINDOM – The Marshall-Lakeview Youth Wrestling team had 33 wrestlers to compete in the Northland Youth Wrestling Association Region tournament on Saturday.
Among those 33 wrestlers, 16 placed within the top three in their respective weight class and age groups to qualify for the NYWA State Tournament, which will take place April 3-5 in Rochester
More than 480 wrestlers, kindergarten through eighth grade, competed in region tournaments Saturday with their sights set on reaching the top of the podium and earn a trip to the state tournament.
The Tigers had six region champions, including Lincoln Christenson, Joshua Kraft, Dylan Louwagie, Tate Condezo, Eli Cole and Wyatt Martin all took first in their weight classes and age groups. Second-place finishes came from Keynan Coequyt, Aidan Mattison, Brody Wixon, Hailey Bahr, Spencer Wambeke, Grant Louwagie, Jaiden Bahr and Cole Felcyn. Third-place finishers were Landon Marthaler and Zack Felcyn.
Wrestlers who place fourth, fifth and sixth at a region tournament qualify for the NYWA State Invitational Tournament on April 3-5 in Rochester. Marshall-Lakeview had seven wresters qualify for that event. Brett Regnier, Noah Jensen, Lucas Hodges and Jackson Hughes all finished in fourth place. Isiah Argueta and Hsa La Eh both ended up fifth, while Brenden Weller was sixth.
The Tigers will be in action Saturday at the NYWA Region Team Tournament in Tracy. The top 6 teams in the region qualify for the state tournament, also in Rochester April 3-5.
