WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Bolden, Pioneers win junior college national title
ROCHESTER – A former Marshall Tiger is a national champion.
Marshall native Shannon (Bolden) Nelson coached the Northland College Pioneers women’s basketball program to its first NJCAA Division III national title.
The Pioneers entered the tournament as the seventh seed, despite holding a record of 24-1. On its way to winning the title, Northland defeated the second, third and first seeds in the tournament. The Pioneers defeated No. 1 seed and two-time defending champion Rock Valley, Ill., 69-60 in the championship game.
In her four seasons as head coach at Northland College, Nelson has a carer record of 91-27.
