PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Blackjacks claim golf wins

TRACY – The Dawson-Boyd boys and girls golf teams both earned team titles at the Tracy Triangular on Thursday.

The Blackjack boys totaled 163 team points, defeating Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and Hendricks, which earned 209 and 238, respectively. Dawson-Boyd girls had the only complete team, winning with a score of 247.

The Blackjacks’ Christian Thoen and Hollie Polzine were the medalists of the meet. Thoen shot a 38 for the boys while Polzine had a 53 for the girls.

On the boys side, Easton Popma earned second place with a 39, followed by a three-way tie for third between Dawson-Boyd’s Cameron Kemen and Spencer Erickson, as well as Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s Devin Skalak, who all shot a 43.

Dawson’s Taylor Loose and Hendrick’s Courtney Frank tied for second, individually, shooting 54s. TMB’s Annika Anderson placed third with a score of 58.

Montevideo 6, Yellow Med. East 1

GRANITE FALLS – Yellow Medicine East lost 6-1 to Montevideo in a West Central conference match-up Thursday.

James DeJager earned the only win for Sting, defeating Tyler Eul 6-2 and 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Brandon Repsher picked-up a 7-6 set win over Jesse Erickson but was fell 8-6 in the tie-breaking set.

After dropping its season opener, YME is 0-1 this season and is scheduled to play MACCRAY on Monday.

Cardinal Relays

LUVERNE – The Westbrook-Walnut Grove boys and girls track teams competed in the Cardinal Relays held in Luverne on Tuesday.

The Chargers tied for sixth, earning 44 teams points in the boys competition, while WWG took eighth with 31 1/2 points in the girls competition.

Melanie Kedl had a strong performance for the Chargers, earning first in the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 4 seconds. She also grabbed a third-place finish in high jump after clearing 4-foot-6 and a sixth-place effort in the 200 dash at 28.98 seconds.

Kedl was also a member of the Chargers’ 800 relay that took fifth in 2:00.65. The team also consisted of Julianna Pederson, Mady Johnson and Stephanie Amsden. Pederson, Johnson and Amsden placed sixth in the 400 relay in 58.83 seconds along with teammate Alexa Byer. The WWG 3,200 relay team included Pederson, Johnson, Safron Milne and MaKenzie Deprez also placed sixth in 11:54.

For the boys, Derek Christians placed second (10-6) in pole vault, followed by teammate Koua Vang in fifth (9-6). Levi Bunting took third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.8 seconds.

The Chargers placed sixth in both the 400 relay and the 800 relay in 50.28 seconds and 1:46.79, respectively. The 400 relay team consisted of Tanner Pederson, Nick Berg, Jared Ries and Sean McCrosky. Berg and Ries also competed in the 800 relay with Payton Vold and Tyson Berg.
