Leadercast returning to Marshall

MARSHALL – The opportunity to hear from some of the world’s big names on the topic of leadership doesn’t always come often. But this May, that opportunity is back in Marshall for the fourth year in a row. Better yet, you don’t have to be a businessperson or community leader to attend, organizers say.

The 2014 Leadercast broadcast event will be at Marshall High School on May 9. The day-long event includes a wide variety of speakers, broadcast live from Atlanta, Ga., to sites around the world.

This year’s slated speakers include some high-profile personalities like former first lady Laura Bush, author Malcom Gladwell and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Organizers for the event started taking registrations about a week ago, said Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce Director Cal Brink.

“Ticket sales are starting to come in,” he said, although things tend to get a lot busier later in the registration period, he said. “We hope to have over 300 people attend.”

Brink said organizers are hoping to see the audience for the Leadercast grow. It’s open for anyone in the community to attend.

“It’s not just a business broadcast. It’s about personal leadership,” Brink said.

Individuals, parents and students can all find something helpful to take away from the sessions, he said. And with nine different speakers, the Leadercast is a good value, he said.

Besides Bush, Tutu and Gladwell, Leadercast 2014’s full list of speakers includes author Andy Stanley; Randall Wallace, a screenwriter and director best known for his writing work on “Braveheart;” SAP AG CEO Bill McDermott; author Laura Schroff; psychologist and leadership consultant Henry Cloud; and leadership expert Simon Sinek. The event will be co-hosted by entertainers Cat Deeley and Tripp Crosby.

Local businesses and organizations have played a big part in making the Marshall Leadercast possible, Brink said. In addition to the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce and the Legacy Foundation, more than a dozen local employers and groups have helped sponsor the event.

“We’ve had a lot of businesses step up,” he said.
