AMATEUR BASEBALL: Teams begin seasons

MINNEOTA – Minneota suffered a 17-3 loss in its season opener against the Clinton Cards.

None of the Mudhens three runs were earned as the two teams combined for seven errors.

Engler led the way offensively with two hits to go with one each from Doug Mead, Jason Myhre, Jesus Macias, Beau Buysse and Tyson Sonnenberg.

Hadley 12, Heron Lake 5

HERON LAKE – The Hadley Buttermakers opened up their season with a 12-5 win over the Heron Lake Lakers. The Buttermakers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and didn’t look back.

They didn’t allow a run until the seventh inning as Justin Reinsma picked up the win on the mound.

Reinsma struck out four while walking just two in six innings of work.

Nick Bruning lead the team offensively with a home run and two RBI as he went 3-for-5 at the plate.

Slayton Native Mitch Magnus finished with a double and an RBI and he went 4-for-5.

MILROY- The Milroy Irish got its season off to a strong start with a 9-7 win over the Stark Longhorns on Sunday.

Anthony and Dominic Dolan paced the Irish, offensively, as they combined for two RBI and Dominic Dolan had three hits.

Tyler Peterson got the start on the mound and picked up the win as he worked three innings.
