PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Blackjacks win DH; Herding sets mark

MINNEOTA – Minneota/Canby/Lincoln HI had some defensive trouble that allowed Dawson-Boyd to cruise to 13-2 and 12-2 wins over the Lancers Monday night.

Sadie Zaiser tallied two RBI for the Blackjacks in game one while they also got hits from Justine Lee and Nicole Jurgenson. Jurgenson finished with two RBI to go with one from Kylie Schuelke.

The Blackjacks were helped in game one by 10 Lancer errors and six Lancer errors in the second game.

Sadie Zaiser went the distance on in the pitching circle in both contests and tallied a combined 12 strikeouts against just four walks, picking up the victory in both games.

NEW ULM – Wabasso earned a 16-11 win Monday night over Minnesota Valley Lutheran. There were plenty of offensive highlights to go around as Erin Liebl provided the biggest shot of the game with a two-run home run as she finished with two RBI and had two runs.

Janessa Baune finished 1-for-5 with three RBI while Jennie Wotschke finished a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with three RBI and scored one run herself.

The Rabbits also got RBI from Shelby Taylor, Morgan Frank and Callie Rohlik.

Rohlik went the distance in the pitching circle and picked up the win.

DANUBE – Renville County West jumped out to a four-run first-inning lead on their way to defeat Yellow Medicine East 7-1 on Monday.

The Sting were only able to muster four hits in the game, all singles off the bats of Marissa Sneller, Allison Carmony, Jordan Glad and Hailey Enstad.

Enstad scored the lone Sting run of the game on an error in the seventh inning.

CANBY – Seth Plotz went 3-for-3 with a home run to help Lakeview defeat Canby 13-1 in Camden action on Monday.

Plotz added a double and single, while he drove in three and scored two.

Travis Varpness added a three-hit game as well, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.

Bayley Entad picked up the win for the Lakers, allowing one run on six hits in six innings.

Kristian Leppke led the Lancers, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

TYLER – Gavin VanMoer went 2-for-4 with a home run to help lead Tracy-Milroy-Balaton to a 5-0 win over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Monday.

Jordan Towne added two doubles and two RBI for the Panthers.

Riley took the mound to start the game for TMB. He allowed just two hits and struck out five batters in three innings of work.

Ryan Fischer went 1-for-4 for RTR in the loss.

WABASSO – The Wabasso Rabbits baseball team was shut out 12-0 by Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Monday.

Caleb Salfer and Beau Taylor provided the lone two hits for Wabasso, both singles.

Dirk Pistulka tossed 5.1 innings for the Rabbits in the loss. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits while striking out nine MVL batters.

WESTBROOK – Abby Herding of Westbrook-Walnut Grove shot a girls school-record 38 as the Chargers defeated Red Rock Central 202 to 247 on Monday.

On the boys side, Zach Kircher shot a 44 as RRC defeated WWG 193-202.

West Central Conference Meet

PAYNESVILLE/ATWATER – The West Central Conference South Division boys golf meets continued on Monday. Individuals played nine holes at Atwater and nine at Paynesville.

This was the second of five WCC meets used to determine a conference champion. At each event, individuals count their lowest nine-hole score of the day and add it to their running total.

Charles Blue of Yellow Medicine East shot a 37 on the front-nine to lead all boys golfers on the day. Overall, he is in a four-way tie for second-place at 79, six strokes behind Brett Buckingham of Minnewaska Area, who shot a 38 on Monday.

In the team standings, YME is in second place, with 32 points.
