SLAYTON – Services for Fred “Fritz” Suedbeck, 91, of Slayton are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church Slayton. Burial at St. Ann’s Cemetery Slayton. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. today St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Slayton with a 6:45 p.m. K of C Rosary and a 7 p.m. prayer service and visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton is assisting the family with arrangements.
Fritz passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at his home.
He was born Sept. 27, 1922, in Adrian to Edward and Margaret (Schutz) Suedbeck. He grew up near Adrian and attended Catholic school in Adrian. In 1943 he moved with his family to Slayton. Fritz was united in marriage to Charlotte Westbrook on Oct. 15, 1946, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Slayton. After their marriage they lived and farmed north of Slayton. In 1968 they moved into Slayton and Fritz started working full time as a cattle buyer. In 1979 they returned to the farm and built a new home there. Fritz retired from being a cattle buyer in 1982 and became an order buyer until he called it “quits” when he turned 82. Charlotte passed away in January of 2012. Fritz moved into the Sunrise Terrace Apartments in Slayton in the fall of 2012. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church where he served on many committees over the years and the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Slayton Township board, was a past member of the State Board for Young Farmers and was active with the DFL Party for many years. Fritz played on the Slayton semi-pro baseball team for many years when he was younger. He will always be remembered for his quick wit and smile, but most of all for his love of God and his family.
Survivors include his children, Charles (and Bonnie) Suedbeck of Lester Prairie, Dennis (and Judy) Suedbeck of Monticello, Steven (and Debra) Suedbeck of Redwood Falls, Douglas (and Wendy) Suedbeck of Chanhassen, Patricia (and Tom Juranek) Suedbeck of Harrisburg, S.D., Mark (and Sandy Westman) Suedbeck of Mankato and Lee (and Michelle) Suedbeck of Rogers; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Tom (and Ann) Westbrook of Granite Falls; twin brother, John Suedbeck of Naples, Fla., brothers, Harvey (and Vi) Suedbeck of Mankato and Edward (and Mary Ann) Suedbeck of Plymouth; and sister, Genevieve “Gen” Spartz of Slayton.
