OLIVIA – The Sting earned a huge upset against the defending state champion and Class A No. 1-ranked Bird Island-Olivia-Lake Lillian Friday night, beating them 7-4 on the road.

Derrick Grund and Dylan Johnson both came up huge at the plate for the Sting, combining to go 4-for-5 from the plate and drive in six RBI and score three runs.

Chase Richter, Jordan Odegard and Logan Thorstad also came up with hits for the Sting.

Blake Lindstrom picked up the win on the mound as he worked in relief of starter Austin Vikander. Lindstrom pitched four innings and walked one while striking out one and allowing two hits and one run. Vikander had three walks and one strikeout in three innings of work.

Brett Grund and Logan Sandgren provided the RBI for Bold. Sandgren finished with two while Grund had one.

The win was the first of the season for YME while the loss for BOLD was their first of the season.

Canby 6, RTR 1

CANBY – Bryce Gorder struck out nine Knight batters to help the Canby Lancers defeat Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 6-1 on Friday. Gorder also allowed just one run on six hits over seven innings, while walking just one.

Canby scored their six runs on just three hits, thanks in large part to drawing six walks drawn by five different Lancer batters.

RTR scored their lone run in the sixth on a Brent Wiering RBI single, scoring Mitch Hurst.

Canby will travel to face MACCRAY on Monday, while RTR will host Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian.

SPRINGFIELD – Springfield handed Wabasso a 7-1 loss Friday night. Jevon Richert had a single and a double in his three plate appearances for Springfield while Carter Erickson plated an RBI single.

Josh Altermatt provided the lone run for the Rabbits with an RBI single while Nick Altermatt walked five while striking out two in his five innings of work on the mound. Wabasso will return home today and take on Sleepy Eye High School.
