PREP BASEBALL: MSHSL releases tourney pairings

MARSHALL – The Class A Section 3 baseball tournament pairings were announced by the Minnesota State High School League on Monday.

The Marshall Tigers earned the top seed in the Class AA Section 3 North Division tournament, while Fairmont earned the top seed in the South Division.

Quarterfinal and semifinal games in both the North and South Divisions are scheduled to be played Saturday.

In the upper bracket of the North Division, No. 1 Marshall will host No. 8 Redwood Valley at 11 a.m. in the quarterfinals, while No. 5 Gibbon-Fairfax-Withrop will play No. 4 New London-Spicer at 1 p.m. in Marshall. The winners will face each other at 3 p.m. in Marshall.

In the lower bracket, No. 2 Montevideo will host No. 7 Benson at 11 a.m., followed by No. 6 Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove against No. 3 Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta at 1 p.m. in Montevideo. The winners will meet at 3:30 p.m. in Montevideo.

In the South Division, No. 1 Fairmont will host No. 8 Jackson County Central at 11 a.m. in the first game of the upper bracket. That will be followed by No. 5 Pipestone facing No. 4 St. James Area at 1 p.m., also in Fairmont. Winners will meet at 3:30 in Fairmont.

In the lower bracket, No. 2 New Ulm will host No. 7 Worthington at 11 a.m., followed by No. 3 Luverne against No. 6 Blue Earth Area at 1 p.m. in New Ulm. Winners will meet at 3:30 p.m.

Class A, Section 3

There are three first-round games, one in the North Division and two in the South Division, that are scheduled to be played Wednesday in Class A.

No. 7 Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian will host No. 10 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 5 p.m., while No. 8 Tracy-Milroy-Balaton will host No. 9 Southwestern United at 5 p.m. in Milroy.

In the North Division, No. 9 seed Dawson-Boyd will face No. 8 Yellow Medicine East. That game will be played in Montevideo, starting at 5 p.m.

Second-round and quarterfinal games in both the North and South Divisions are scheduled to be played Saturday.

In the North Division’s upper bracket, top-seeded MACCRAY will host the winner of No. 9 Dawson-Boyd and No. 8 Yellow Medicine East at 11 a.m. At 1 p.m., No. 4 Minneota/Lincoln HI will face No. 5 Renville County West at 1 p.m. in Raymond. The winners of those two second-round games will meet in the quarterfinal round at 3:30 p.m. in Raymond.

In the lower bracket of the North, No. 2 Lac qui Parle Valley will host No. 7 Canby at 11 a.m. No. 3 Lakeview will then face No. 6 Central Minnesota Christian at 1 p.m., also in Madison. The winners of those second-round games will face each other in the quarterfinal round at 3:30 in Madison.

In the South Division’s upper bracket, No. 1 Springfield will host the winner of No. 9 Southwestern United and No. 8 Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at 11 a.m. No. 4 Mountain Lake Area will then face No. 5 Murray County Central at 1 p.m. in Springfield. The winners of those two games will play in the quarterfinal round at 3:30 p.m. in Sprinfield.

In the lower bracket, No. 2 Windom Area will host the winner of No. 10 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and No. 7 Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian at 11 a.m. No. 3 Adrian will face No. 6 Wabasso at 1 p.m. in the other second-round game. The winner of those two second-round games will meet in the quarterfinal round at 3:30 p.m. in Windom.
