VanOverbeke, Welu receive scholarships

Spencer VanOverbeke and Eli Welu, who are 2014 Marshall High School graduates, are the recipients of the $500 Milroy Elevator scholarships.

Marshall receives recognition in finance reporting

Marshall Public Schools has received the 2014 Minnesota Department of Education School Finance Award, honoring its 2012-13 fiscal year financial results.

The School Finance Award is awarded annually by the Minnesota Department of Education, Division of School Finance to recognize schools for meeting statutory deadlines for submitting audited fiscal financial data and reporting criteria.

To earn this award, Marshall complied with all state requirements for meeting financial reporting deadlines, had positive fund balances in the general fund, food service fund and community education fund and had no errors in its financial reporting.

Out of the 571 eligible reporting entities, 404 met the qualifying criteria for the School Finance Award.

Louwagie wins Catholic Daughter scholarship

Caitlin Louwagie, the daughter of Peter and Melissa Louwagie of Cottonwood, has been awarded a $500 scholarship from the Catholic Daughters of the Americas local court St. Joan of Arc 1291.

Louwagie plans to attend The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth and major in exercise physiology with a minor in gerontology. After completion of a bachelor’s degree, she plans to work toward becoming a physical therapist.
