MCMC brings on new staff

SLAYTON – Patients at the Murray County Medical Center will see some new faces when they come in for care. Interim CEO John Osse has been working on recruitment to bring providers to the hospital after many staff left following the resignation of a physician’s assistant and later the ousting of the former CEO.

“We are slowly filling in the gaps by filling the positions that we lost,” Osse said after the regular meeting of the MCMC Board Tuesday afternoon.

David Axtman, MPAS PA-C; Demetrios Plomaritis, PA-C; and Kimberly Spaans, PA-C, will be joining the emergency department at MCMC. Osse added that another PA was recently hired and will start next month. Three new RNs have also been hired, and there are just a couple more nursing positions to fill. MCMC is still looking to find one more PA for the clinic and a physician for the hospital.

“Once we get our full complement of staff, we should be headed towards profitability,” Osse said.

Despite the recent turmoil at the medical center, Osse said that things are improving at MCMC.

“Morale is improving, and transparency has helped,” Osse said. “I’m still taking input from staff and citizens. It’s a better working environment, and the community continues to be supportive.”
