SLAYTON – Services for Rueben Myrum Boxrud, 89, of Slayton will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton and also one prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Burial is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton. Military honors accorded by the Slayton American Legion Post and the Slayton VFW Post. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Murray County, Shetek Lutheran Ministries and Health Ministries at Christ Lutheran Church.

He died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at his home in Slayton.

He was born Dec. 1, 1924, to Halvor Richard Floyd and Edna (Myrum) Boxrud in Lac qui Parle County. He joined the United States Merchant Marines in 1944. He graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy as a deck officer and served on munitions supply ships during World War II.

Survivors include his children, Nancy of Pipestone, Sue of Northfield and Amy of Northfield; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
