LAKE BENTON – Services for Cheryl Kjergaard, 58, of Lake Benton are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Burial will be in Diamond Lake Cemetery, rural Lake Benton. Arrangements are provided by Hartquist Funeral Home, Utoft-Johansen Chapel in Lake Benton.

She died Tuesday, May 27, 2014, peacefully, surrounded by family, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Cheryl Ann Kjergaard was born Sept. 24, 1955, to Robert and Phyllis (Monahan) Kuhn in Tyler. She was baptized and confirmed at Lake Benton United Methodist Church. She grew up in Lake Benton and graduated from Lake Benton High School in 1974, where she was Homecoming Queen. After high school, she completed the floral design program at Central Lakes College in Brainerd and worked at Bofferding Flower Shop in Marshall. On June 7, 1975, Cheryl married Steve Kjergaard at Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton. Their union was blessed with three children and 38 years of life together. The couple made their home and raised their family on the farm north of Lake Benton. Cheryl worked at Cenex Harvest States and at First Security Bank in Lake Benton. In June 2013 she was diagnosed with colon cancer. She fought a courageous battle and remained optimistic with life through it all.

Cheryl was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lake Benton, and a member of Lake Benton American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, scrapbooking, flower gardening, and design. She especially loved time spent spoiling her two grandsons, Brody and Drake.

Cheryl is lovingly remembered by her husband, Steve of Lake Benton; her children, Lance Kjergaard of Lake Benton, Cody (and Andrea) Kjergaard of Kulm, North Dakota, and Kristi (and Matt) Eickhoff of Lake Benton; grandsons, Brody Eickhoff and Drake Kjergaard; mother, Phyllis Kuhn of Lake Benton; siblings, Sandy (and John) Cornelius of Whittier, Calif., Jeff (and Linda) Kuhn of Winona, Linda (and Larry) Englund of Brandon and Joan (and Tedd) Johnson of Rowlett, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Kuhn.
