MARSHALL – Services for Raymond Langswierdt, 72, of Marshall, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marshall Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Military honors will be performed by the Marshall veterans.
He died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Raymond Omer was born July 8, 1941, in Minneota to Omer and Adeline (Gregg) Langswierdt. He was baptized, received First Communion and Confirmation at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. He attended and graduated from Marshall High School.
On July 22, 1959, he joined the United States Marine Corps and received an honorable discharge on July 17, 1963. During his life, Ray’s employment included assistant manager for Target Stores in Brooklyn Center, a milk truck driver for the National Farmers Organization, owner of the Amoco Station in Marshall, and a manager for Schwans in Redding, Calif. Ray moved to Balaton in 2000, and he became a supervisor at the Marshall Walmart for eight years. On May 27, 2014, he became a confirmed member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Balaton. Ray’s enjoyments were racing sprint cars, firing weapons at the range and flying.
Ray is survived two sons, Todd of Texas and Jeff of Ruthton; two brothers, Ron of Texas and Roger of Canby; sister, Lorraine Hoffman of Minneapolis; and his good friend, Jim Wichmann of Balaton.
He is preceded by his parents.
Ray was very proud of the Langswierdt name which in Belgium means “Long Sword.” Blessed be the memory of Raymond Landswierdt.
