Area students participate in commencement ceremony at CSB

Five area students participated in the commencement ceremony at the College of St. Benedict on May 17 in the S.L. Haehn Campus Center/Clemens Field House on the CSB campus, St. Joseph.

Kayla Deutz, the daughter of Mark and Brenda Deutz of Marshall, bachelor of arts degree in psychology. Sarah Deutz, the daughter of Rick and Deb Deutz of Ghent, bachelor of arts degree in psychology. Nicole Noyes, the daughter of Ken and Janice Noyes of Marshall, bachelor of arts degree in biology with the honor summa cum laude. Summa cum laude indicates a cumulative grade point average of 3.90. Stephanie Noyes, the daughter of Ken and Janice Noyes of Marshall, bachelor of arts degree in biology with the honor egregia cum laude. Egregia cum laude indicates a cumulative grade point average of 4.00. Christina Pollock, the daughter of John and Kathy Pollock of Lynd, bachelor of arts degree in management.

Schmidt makes the dean’s list at Rochester Community Tech

Cody Schmidt of Cottonwood was among 1,035 students from Rochester Community and Technical College who made the dean’s list for spring semester 2014 ending this past May.

To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must successfully complete 12 or more letter-graded credits, in the same semester, and achieve a grade point average between 3.0 and 4.0.

SDSU students named to dean’s list

To earn dean’s list distinctions in SDSU’s colleges, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and must have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Peterson, Erickson included on Mount Marty dean’s list

Mount Marty College announces the spring 2014 dean’s list honorees. Included on the list is Bryce Peterson, Marshall; Samuel Erickson, Slayton. The dean’s list at Mount Marty College is defined as a full time undergraduate student completing a full-time load of graded course work with a minimum term grade point average of 3.5.

Local students included on Buena Vista dean’s list

Meghan Harmening and Kohei Kiyofuji, both of Marshall, were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester at Buena Vista University. Students named to the dean’s list must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 for the semester, based on a 4.0 grade point system, and must have taken at least 12 hours of coursework.

Marshall students make Lake Area Tech honors list

Deb Shephard, Lake Area Technical Institute president, has announced the current president’s list. The president’s list is limited to full-time students who have achieved a semester grade point average of 3.5 to 4.0. Students with a 4.0 have been noted by an *.

Maas earns medical degree at U of M

Jonna Maas, the daughter of Bruce and Maydra Maas of Walnut Grove, received her doctor of medicine degree with distinction from the University of Minnesota medical school during its May 2014 commencement exercises. She will continue her medical training in a four-year combined residency program in internal medicine/pediatrics at the University of Minnesota hospital where she will focus on hospital and critical care medicine.

Maas received her bachelor of arts degree in biology and chemistry in 2010 from the University of Minnesota-Morris and is a 2006 graduate of Westbrook-Walnut Grove High School.

UW-La Crosse announces spring 2014 dean’s list

The following students have been named to the dean’s list at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for the spring semester of the 2013-14 academic year, ending May 2014.

Qualification for the dean’s list is limited to students who have attained outstanding academic achievement. To be eligible, students must have earned not less than a 3.5 semester grade point average and have carried a minimum of 12 semester credits.

Students on the dean’s list from this area include: Marshall, McKenzie Vermeire, exercise and sport science major: exercise science – pre-professional track.

Plaetz graduates from St. Scholastica

Jennifer Plaetz of Lucan graduated from The College of St. Scholastica on May 10 in a commencement ceremony at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. Plaetz graduated with a doctor of physical therapy in physical therapy.

Students from area graduate from UW-Stout

Undergraduate and graduate students participated in commencement ceremonies at University of Wisconsin-Stout in May including Nicole Einerson of Cottonwood, who received an M.S. in applied psychology and Hope Weilage of Marshall, B.F.A. in industrial design.

Schoephoerster receives Bemidji State scholarship

Bemidji State University has announced that Madison Schoephoerster of Marshall is among students receiving scholarship funding to support their educations for the 2014-15 academic year. Schoephoerster is a sophomore, majoring in sociology. She received the Winston and Irene Naylor Scholarship, $300.

Northern State University releases spring 2014 dean’s list

Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D., has released the dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester.

Students who have earned at least a 3.5 grade point average for the semester are eligible for the dean’s list.

Ridgewater announces spring semester 2014 dean’s list

Full awarded scholarship at SDSU

Amy Full of Marshall was awarded the Chen Ho Chen and Jane Chen Scholarship in Biology and Microbiology for the 2014-2015 academic year at South Dakota State University.

Full, a 2011 graduate of Marshall High School, is a senior majoring in biology at SDSU, where she is active in the Brookings County Youth Mentoring Program, Wintrode Student Success Center, the Van. D. and Barbara B. Fishback Honors College, pre-professional club and Mortar Board.

Lozinski named to spring 2014 dean’s list at St. Scholastica

Meghan Lozinski of Marshall, was named to the spring 2014 dean’s list at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. Dean’s list members have achieved a 3.75 grade point average or above on a 4.0 scale. Lozinski is majoring in English – Intended.

Blomme named to spring 2014 dean’s list at Creighton

Amber Blomme of Marshall, a senior in the College of Nursing, was named to the 2014 spring semester dean’s list at Creighton University.

Full-time students who earn a 3.5 grade point average or better on a 4.0 scale are eligible for the dean’s honor roll.

Gustavus announces 2014 spring semester dean’s list

The spring semester dean’s list at Gustavus Adolphus College has been released. The list comprises students who have earned a 3.7 grade point average (based on a scale in which 4.0 = A) or higher for the semester ending in May 2014.
