MARSHALL – Mass of Christian Burial for Clarence Boogaard, 85, currently living in Winsted, formerly of Marshall, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today with a CCW Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will take place at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in Minneota on Saturday. Military honors provided by American Legion Post 113 of Marshall.
Clarence died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
Clarence Boogaard was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Butler to George and Johanna (Ryus) Boogaard. Clarence served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean War. In 1953, he was united in marriage to Yvonne Scott. To this union was born five children: Danny, Steve, Diane, Laurie and Cheryl. Clarence worked for his brother Albert’s business in Minneota after the service. Clarence then worked at the bus garage in Minneota for a few years. He then began a 30 year career working for McLaughlin & Schulz, retiring in 1992. Clarence enjoyed collecting a variety of items including salt and pepper shakers and lighted Christmas houses. He was a member of the U.S. American Legion Post 199 of Minneota.
Survivors include his children Danny (and JoAnn) Boogaard of Lakeland, Steve (and Nancy) Boogaard of Marshall, Diane (and Duane) Odenbrett of Lester Prairie, Laurie Boogaard of Lester Prairie and Cheryl Boogaard of Lester Prairie; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Con, Helen, Marie, Albert, John, Henry, Wilma and Bill.
