MARSHALL – Services for Leonard Boulton, 87, of Marshall will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Canby. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at the Birk Funeral Home in Canby, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Local military honors will be provided by the Canby, Porter and Minneota American Legion Honor Guards.
He died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Leonard Joseph Boulton was born May 12, 1927, near Porter to Joseph and Elizabeth (Moorse) Boulton. He was raised in the Porter area and graduated from Minneota High School in 1944. He entered the United States Army during the Korean War and served from Feb. 21, 1951, until Feb. 27, 1953, and then entered into the reserves until February of 1957. Once he returned home from the service he farmed in the Porter area. Leonard and his brother, John, operated Boulton Trailer Sales together for many years.
Leonard was united in marriage to Betty Ewert Beek on April 7, 1998, at the Full Gospel Assembly Church in Canby.
He was a lifelong member of the Porter American Legion, Post 457 and also of the VFW Post 5334 of Minneota where he was the quartermaster for 40 years. Leonard was also an active member of the 40 et 8 organization Sioux Voiture #62. He attended the Full Gospel Assembly Church in Canby.
He enjoyed traveling and meeting new people and wherever he stopped he made a new friend.
Grateful for having shared Leonard’s life is his wife, Betty Boulton of Marshall; three step-children, Vicky Serna of Hagerstown, Md., Jordy (and Sue) Beek of Marshall and Gary (and Robyn) Beek of Prior Lake; seven grandchildren, Amanda (and Mark) Williams, Santana Serna, JR (and Jenny) Beek, Aaron Beek, Gary Beek Jr., Dan (and Maggie) Dunrud and Jacob Beek; one brother, John (and Corrine) Boulton of Porter; one sister, Joan (and Harold) Regnier of Rochester; two brothers-in-law, Jack McLaughlin and Alvin Hess; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Elizabeth Boulton; one brother, Bob Boulton; three sisters, Esther McLaughlin, Mary Hess and Ruth (and Erv) Jerzak and one grandson, Gabriel Dunrud.
