Marshall schools in midst of exciting change
As we end the 2013-2014 school and fiscal years and transition to the 2014-2015 “new years” we also are transitioning from the end of a nine-and-a-half year tenure for Superintendent Klint Willert to the start of a new tenure for Superintendent Scott Monson beginning July 8.
Change takes place all of the time for all of us and the school district is certainly not exempt from this type of change to come about. The good news is that this transition is happening over the summer break which allows for a better planned and paced move to occur.
Dr. Klint Willert faithfully served the students, staff and community of Marshall for almost 10 years and will now become the Superintendent of Schools for Brainerd Public Schools beginning July 1.
He provided sound leadership and direction throughout his years here and certainly will be missed. His friendly demeanor and personable style served him and the district well. He leaves the district in both educational and financial sound positions. We thank him for all of his efforts and wish him well in his new endeavors in Brainerd.
Mr. Scott Monson comes from Morris Area Schools where he served that community for ten years as the Superintendent. He brings with him a depth of K-12 educational experience and knowledge that will certainly serve the Marshall district well for many years to come. He comes highly recommended by those he has worked for and worked with. He was hired after being named one of the four finalists for the position and completing the all-day interview process and was unanimously recommended for the position by the school board. We welcome him to our community as he now becomes a Marshall Tiger.
The spring/summer break doesn’t mean that there isn’t activity happening at the schools. Deep cleaning and maintenance projects are taking place throughout all of the sites and new teachers and staff are being hired so that we’re ready to go for the start of school on Aug. 18. The Extended School Year (ESY) program for special needs students is in full swing and the Talents Academy program through Community Services already ended a couple of weeks ago. Summer School is in full session at MA-TEC along with the English Learners (EL) program just finishing up at the Middle School with the Jump Start program to start right after the 4th. Needless to say, a lot of activity is happening at Marshall Public Schools.
One last item to mention is the free breakfast and lunch service program for all children ages 1-18 years old. The meals are served Monday through Thursday at the Middle School cafeteria with breakfast served from 8-8:30 a.m. and lunch served from 12-12:30 p.m. Please contact either Lori Fruin, foodservice director at 929-2660 or Karissa Winter, district office administrative assistant at 929-2607 for further details. I hope you have a great rest of the summer.
