A’s turn on offense, beat Yanks

MARSHALL – Marshall jumped on the Milroy Yankees early en route to a 9-2 win Wednesday night.

The win came on the heels of a one-run loss to Sacred Heart on Tuesday.

“It was a good bounceback win for us,” Marshall manager Matt Suby said. “After a close loss last night, we got back to playing the way we have been most of the summer, which is good to see.”

Marshall jumped out to a 6-1 lead through seven innings and Milroy was never able to recover.

Andrew Kinney and Austin Stubbs each finished the game with two RBI and Kinney finished the game with two RBI, going 2-for-3 from the plate while Jordon Kontz also recorded an RBI, going 2-for-4.

They also got an RBI from Ben Korger, Jarred Carlson, Zach Olson and Tanner Neale.

Steven Wehr got the start on the mound and struck out eight and walked five in seven innings of work.

Olson took over in the final two innings and walked one while striking out one.

Matt Bauer took the loss for the Yankees.

He pitched six innings, striking out four and walking two, but allowed eight runs on 12 hits.

Colton Peterson had the lone RBI for the Yankees, going 1-for-3 from the plate.

Milroy also got hits from Andy Schmidt and Brian Dolan.

Matt Bauer and Peterson came across to score.

The Yankees are winding down their season and are looking ahead to their playoff contests.

“We have guys that are competing for spots still,” Milroy manager Ryan Rohlik said. “We have to go with one lineup for the playoffs and stick with it. We need that to happen now. We’ve been playing a lot better than we were at the beginning of the year. We can’t let this game linger in our minds. It’s all about Friday and getting better on Saturday and turn it up a couple notches on Sunday.

Marshall is set to host the Milroy Irish on Friday and the Yankees will take on Lamberton Friday before finishing their regular season against Stark on Saturday.

Their Saturday game against start will feature a benefit raffle for the family of player Josh Hadley.
