Who is upholding the Constitution?

To the editor:

Isn’t it wonderful? The Supreme Court has upheld the First Amendment which reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

But the Senate of the United States is trying in a new way to silence conservatives. So they have scheduled a Senate vote to repeal and re-write the First Amendment.

Imagine that! Who can trust the Senate to tamper with the most precious of our freedoms?

It is called Senate Joint Resolution 19. And 40 cosigners – all Democrats – have already signed on to support Reid in his attack on the Constitution.

As Senator Cruz says, this amendment will “muzzle” citizens like you and me from “saying things the government finds inconvenient.”

S.J. Res 19 empowers Congress to silence anyone who criticizes them or says something they don’t agree with. And they have scheduled a vote on it this year.

Isn’t it time to contact Senators Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar on this issue? Hands off the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. No to this Senate effort: S.J. Res 19!

Why doesn’t Congress hold President Obama accountable to keep the promise of his oath to uphold the Constitution?

Sometimes I feel like we are in the pre-Hitler stage and everyone is sleeping and too busy to pay attention. Wake up America before it’s too late.

This is the Republic of the United States with the laws founded on Christian principles based on the authority of God who is the Creator of all of us and to Whom we will all have to report someday. We are not just a democracy where majority rules.

And though we use democratic principles, our nation is a republic.
