Marshall Blue drops two games at Alex

ALEXANDRIA-?Marshall Blue dropped its opening two games in the Alexandria Tournament Friday, losing the opening game 6-5 to Cold Spring and the second game 10-2 at the hands of Grand Forks.

Matt Thompson finished with two hits for the game while Nick Fosvick, Ryan VanMoer, PJ Bot, Jacob Buysse and Jacob Deines each finished with one hit. Mason Penske got the start on the mound and didn’t have his best stuff as Grand Forks rallied off six runs on three hits.

He struck out one while walking three in 1 2-3 innings pitched.

Deines came in in relief and pitched 3 1-3 innings. He also walked three while striking out one and allowed four runs on five hits.

Penske and Buysse scored the runs for Marshall.

Matt Thompson, PJ Bot and Jacob Deines each had doubles in the contest, but Marshall came up just short in its battle with Cold Spring, losing 5-4 in nine innings.

Thompson picked up two RBI on the game while Nick Fosvick tallied three hits in his four at-bats.

Marshall also got hits from Mason Penske and Jacob Deines.

Thomas Fischer went the full nine innings on the mound and struck out three while walking three.

The five Cold Spring runs came on the strength of eight hits.

Marshall Blue will take on Alexandria’s 15U team at noon today and follow up with a matchup against Champlin Park at 2:20 p.m.
