Cause of boy’s death in Garvin not determined

The death of an 13-year-old boy in Garvin on Monday night is under investigation, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department said.

Authorities were called to the scene at 7:30 p.m. Monday after a report that a person was found unresponsive.

Garvin Fire Chief David Bitton said the boy was found by two other children.

“He had been there for probably a good hour at least (before he was found),” Bitton said. “The helicopter got called but was cancelled. We couldn’t bring him back. It was a tough day.”

The sheriff’s department said the teen was unresponsive when emergency personnel arrived. CPR was performed on the boy for more than 20 minutes before the boy was declared dead, Bitton said.

Balaton and Tracy ambulance, and Garvin Fire and Ambulance were on the scene, along with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department.

Lyon County Sheriff Mark Mather said the cause of death will be determined after an autopsy is performed at the medical examiner’s office in Ramsey County.

No further information was available Tuesday afternoon.
