Track & field complex taking shape

There has been substantial progress this summer at the Marshall Regional Track & Field complex at Southwest Minnesota State University – a venue born from a partnership between the university and Marshall Public Schools. On Tuesday, workers continued to add touches – and color – to the turf. Kieffer Flooring is installing the artificial surface in the center of the track. The construction crew will be grooming the rubber and sand into the monofilament fibers of the surface the next two days, SMSU Athletic Director Chris Hmielewski said. Pictured are the hammer and discus cages located in the field events area of the complex. To the right of the throwing cage is the shot put rings and landing area. Also located in the north field events area are two long/triple jump pits running east and west as well as the two pole vault approaches (east/west and north/south) and pit. The javelin event area is located to the far north along the treeline. The project is scheduled to be completed in August, Hmielewski said.
