Faith in action for July 18

By Sister Lenore Paschke, OSB

The Benedictines of Marshall are offering a workshop series on the Preparedness and Practices of those who serve others. We will follow the ecumenical BeFriender Ministry course, which offers many opportunities for personal growth that can deepen relationships with spouse, family and friends. Workshop goals include coming to an awareness of our own God-given, spirit-led strength and wisdom, the power of compassionate listening and the invitation we have to empower others to make choices and move forward. It can also help participants provide care through a listening presence to anyone experiencing loss, grief or the stress of difficult transitions.

The workshop will be offered on two different schedules.

Schedule I sessions will be on six consecutive Wednesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 10 through Oct. 15.

Schedule II – six sessions will take place over two weekends.

Friday, Sept. 12, 6-9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 19, 6-9 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 20, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Workshop materials, refreshments and Saturday lunches for participants registered for the weekend workshop will be provided. Workshop fee: $45.

The Preparedness and Practices workshop may also lead to service as a BeFriender. In this ministry, volunteers listen with compassion as the presence of Christ, visiting the homebound, adults with special needs, elders, or others facing challenging life circumstances. A BeFriender benefits from continued growth through regular meetings, an increased experience of community, and personal enrichment from hearing stories of those befriended.

We warmly welcome you to this time for personal growth. It can also be a time to reflect on the possibility of serving the Marshall community as a BeFriender. If you would like more information about the Preparedness and Practices series or if you would like to receive a registration form for the workshop, please call us or send us an email. We would love to hear from you.
