Leah Gifford Ohme voted to Augustana HOF
BALATON- Balaton native Leah Gifford Ohme will be inducted into the Augustana (S.D.) College athletics Hall of Fame. Ohme earned numerous accolades as cross country runner at the South Dakota school between the years 1997 and 2002.
Ohme was the North Central Conference cross country champion in 1998 and ’99. She is also a two-time NCAA All-American. Ohme won the indoor NCC 5,000 meter championship in the winter of 1999.
The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton grad was especially fond of her 1999 NCC championship race. “It felt like I could run forever,” she said via cell phone.
Running was also a family affair for Ohme. “The best was when my sister and I got to run together again,” she said. Ohme and her sister Julie ran together in high school and at Augustana in 2002. “We were always one and two throughout high school,” she added.
