MBA unveils HOF

MARSHALL -The Marshall Baseball Association annouced the formation of the Marshall Baseball Hall of Fame Wednesday.

Four members were elected to its inagural class.

Larry Knigge, Jerry Krause, Jim Muchlinski and Jimmy Verdeck are the four members of the first class elected.

Knigge is a longtime umpire and is secretary of the Southwest Umpires Association.

He is also a member of the Minnesota Baseball Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.

Krause was the first A’s manager and played a key part in reviving the organization after the team folded in 1972.

Muchlinski is a former manager of the Marshall Tigers. He managed 34 seasons 24 of them at Marshall High School and compiled a 380-206 career record.

His teams won five Southwest Conference Championships and his team placed second at the state tournament in 1976.

Muchlinski also served as the Marshall Legion team coach for 15 years, going 242-77.

He is currently a member of the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame (MSHSCA) as well as the Minnesota State High School League Baseball Coaches Association (MSHSBCA Hall of Fame.

Verdeck was a former groundskeeper at Legion Field and helped turn the park into what it is today.

These four will be honored at a ceremony during the 2015 season.
