Long Sox fall in State Tournament
BELLE PLAINE- The Lamberton Long Sox saw its season come to an end in the first round of the 2014 State Tournament with a 9-1 loss to the Green Isle Irish Saturday.
Landon Erickson had the lone RBI for Lamberton, going 1-for-4 from the plate. Erickson’s RBI single in the sitxh inning scored strand. The Long Sox also got hits from Donald Strand (2-for-4), Jake Wahl (1-for-4) and Isaac Jenniges (1-for-3).
Zach Herd had a big day offensively for the Irish, going 2-for-5 and driving in three runs while Alex Twenge drove in two runs while going 3-for-4 from the plate with a double.
Green Isle also got RBI from Mac Zachow, Chriss Knoll and Jeremy Ische.
Shane Shoborg took the loss on the mound for Lamberton. He started and went 2 1-3 and let up five runs on five hits while striking out two and walking two.
Sean Mathiowetz pitched in middle relief and wen 4 2-3 innings. Green Isle didn’t take it any easier on him, getting four runs on seven hits, but none of them were earned. Mathiowetz struck out six and walked just one.
Brady Bierl pitched one inning and allowed one hit while striking out one and walking two.
Zachow pitched seven innings in relief for Green Isle and picked up the win. He had a commanding 11 strikeouts against no walks.
Twenge got the start and pitched two innings, striking out three batters.
With the loss, Lamberton ended its season with a record of 23-12.
