Katelyn Kalkman, front, along with Jazmyne Neely, left, Elissa Reinsma and Karmann Carroll, were among those who hauled items to residence hall rooms on foot, while others operated gators and ATVs during move-in day at Southwest Minnesota State University on Thursday. The effort, a tradition started by the late President Doug Sweetland, also includes a campus cookout, ice cream treats, house meetings and various activities geared to help acclimate new students to college life at SMSU. Approximately 850 students are slated to live on campus this year.
