YME Tennis splits in triangular
ST. JAMES – The Yellow Medicine East girls tennis team earned a split in triangular action Friday in St. James. The Sting fell to Montevideo and were defeated by St. James.
After YME and Montevideo split the singles matchups, the Sting used strong play from their doubles teams to defeat Montevideo 5-2.
Britanna Raddatz and Sandy Bartels picked up wins in singles play for YME.
Danielle Clarke opened up with a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Kailey Maroney.
Raddatz defeated Natasha Smith 6-3, 6-3 for the Sting’s first point in the second match.
After Anne Clarke lost to Avery Koosman (6-1, 6-0), Bartels defeated Erica Loose to tie up the score at two through singles play.
That’s when the three doubles teams took over for YME and came away with three points for the Sting.
Jordan Trotter and Jordan Glad defeated Mayson Peters and Nikki Erickson (6-2, 6-4).
Following a victory by Mariah Norell and Steph Bartels over Morgan Riedinger and Kendra Wanke (6-7, 3-6, 10-2), the doubles sweep was completed by Sophie Timm and Nikki Musselman over Anna VanRavensway (6-1. 3-6, 10-6).
St. James 7, YME 0
The Sting faced St. James in the second match of the day, but were unable to record a single point in the match.
Danielle Clarke lost to Julia Boeve 6-0, 6-0 in the first match. After Aubrey Eckstrom defeated Britanna Raddatz (6-1, 6-0) and Renata Hernadez defeated Anne Clarke (6-1, 6-0), Miranda Jacoby completed the singles sweep for St. James with her win over Sandy Bartels (6-2, 6-0).
Jordan Trotter and Jordan Glad put up more of a fight in the second set of the first doubles match for YME, but they still lost to Ashley Fredrickson and Hollie Peterson (6-1, 6-4).
St. James picked up a pair of 6-1, 6-0 wins to finish the sweep.
Morgan Sandmeyer and Alejandra Trapero topped Mariah Norell and Steph Bartels, while Mackenzie Blickem and Miranda Giese defeated Tiffany Tennis and Sidney Knapper.
MACCRAY 4, YME 3 (Thursday)
Yellow Medicine East was defeated by MACCRAY 4-3 on Thursday night in girls tennis action.
The Sting fell into an early hole, as Danielle Clarke, Britanna Raddatz and Anne Clarke were defeated in the first three singles matchups of the day.
Sandy Bartels got YME on the board in the final singles match, defeating MACCRAY’s Brianna Harguth 6-1, 6-1.
MACCRAY took the first doubles match 6-4, 7-6, as Annie Sandry and Heather Marcus defeated Jordan Trotter and Jordan Glad for the Sting.
YME took the final two doubles matches.
Mariah Norell and Steph Bartels defeated Emily Woods and Alicia Ervin 6-0, 6-2.
In the final match, Nikki Musselman and Sophie Timm earned YME a point over Abby Spence and Emma Pieper.
With the loss, the Sting fall to 2-3 on the season. They return to action today, facing Montevideo and St. James at the SJA Tournament in St. James.
