Help make winter warmer
Children returning to school signals the end of summer and the transition into fall. And, we all know that fall is quickly followed by winter. In oh-too-soon time, short-sleeve shirts give way to sweatshirts and sweatshirts give way to coats and mittens. But not for everyone.
The last few years have been pretty lean times for many people and things like a new coat, boots, or gloves are done without so that a roof over head and food on the table is secured. Last year, over 500 coats and winter gear was distributed to area families who faced the hard choice of having food or winter clothing.
This year, Western Community Action is again collecting winter coats, boots, snow pants and gloves for children, youth and families. We hope you will help us make this winter a bit warmer for people in need by donating new or gently used winter items. Beginning Sept. 19 and continuing through Oct. 24, donations are being received. Distribution of items is scheduled for Nov. 6-9 to families in need. Please join in making this winter a bit warmer for others with your donation. Look for the bright blue or white Coats For Kids collection barrels at businesses and organizations in Marshall, Tracy, Cottonwood and Minneota to drop off warm-weather gear. We will gladly accept boots, coats, caps, gloves, mittens, scarves and snow pants. For more information or to volunteer to help, contact Allan Bakke – Western Community Action – 507-537-1416. Thank you!
